A Not So Whole Earth Catalog

Year 3 Smester 1

Before the internet, catalogs existed as very narrow sets of information.  This  project sought to  focus on the accessibility of data and its representation of humans today. Just as the whole earth catalog was almost an embodiment of the seventies of the golden disk sent on the Apollo to represent mankind in space

THE DATA OF SOCIAL MEDIA

It almost unarguable that social media is an integral part of the fabric of our society. Pintrest, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook all project a specific lens on what it means to be a person and the ins and outs of life. "It didn't happen if you didn't post it"- says almost every millennial ever. Many of the images take are of architecture but some places are photographed than others- making one question what is architecture in the face of social media. Using the geo-location connected to posts from  Instagram, snap chat and periscope a map was create of Manhattan of the buildings most photographed and the faces of the building most "photogenic" in the eyes of our audience. IT brought up the question how does one bridge the physical built world to the virtual world beyond the use of pictures.

POKEMON GO!

Gaming design has begun to answer that question especially Pokemon go! where you can go around catching virtual Pokemon in real time from physical places. This project looked at how to bring the architectural world in real time in both the virtual world and the physical world. This lead to redesigning of the game and its interface as seen in the scenarios below. There were new objectives in the games with incentive- these objective revolved around cresting follies that would act as a co-inhabitable space for both Pokemon and humans alike, and these follies would partially exists in the real world and partially in the virtual. The follies themselves would answer a large issue in Manhattan dealing with trash in recycling- which would become the materials used to construct these follies in the physical dimensions. and as apart of the game users had to work together to collect material and construct it.

THE  FOLLIES

The design of the follies are based on the Pokemon attracted to the follies themselves. There are three different groups with in the games and series of different types of Pokemon that requires different gems for power-ups during battles against others teams/Pokemon so each folly is kitbash of the Pokemon group is services. At these follies Pokemon of that group can gather, regroup,re-connect, and power-up.
