DRAWING WITH LIGHT

There is a saying and that is that to draw one manipulates the light and the dark. It is where these to meet that depth begins to form. This project came about through a series of light experiments that sought to understand why a reflection and a shadow can appear at the same time.

THE SCREENS

In order to understand the what was happening a series of screens were produced at different size, materials, and different types of patterns to determine how each would effect the affect.

The first variable that was noticed that affected the how well and when a projection and a shadow would occur was the opacity of the material. It was determined that a transparent material allowed for the light to completely pass through it thus creating the affect.

The second variable- size of the screen did not affect the projection, but rather the distance of the light source from the screen and the distance of the screen from where is was being projected on top affected the size of the projection.

Lastly, the sizing of shapes of the holes did not alter the projection or the reflection aside form changing what was projected on to the screen.

THE LIGHTING INSTALLATION

It was the ultimate goal to create a lighting installation that people could inter act with. The installation would be a series of light fixtures that would create this affect of two scales a micro which was manipulation by an individual and the macro which was manipulated by a group interaction with the affect.

It was determined that the best way to go about this was to create a lighting fixture that could be placed in a room that would create the micro affect and also through the placement of multiple fixtures a room condition could be created.
